This was 14 feet below previously recorded tributaries to the Nile further to the north. Stanley quickly figured that he was now tracing the source of the Congo instead of that of the Nile. No more physical obstacles stood in Stanley's way except for more warring tribesmen. At times his men wanted to flee.
